7th thru 12th Grade Science

Apologia
Exploring Creation With General Science
This course is designed to be a students
first systematic introduction to the sciences. Although
it can be used for eighth grade (especially if the student
has recently left the public schools), it is typically used
best in the seventh grade. The course covers such topics
as the scientific method, designing experiments, simple
machines, archaeology, geology, paleontology, biology, and
human anatomy and physiology. Its scope, therefore, is quite
wide. There are many hands-on experiments to do, and they
all use household items.
Students who do not have a lot of experience
taking tests which require them to truly master the course
material might have trouble with this course at first. However,
the study skills required for this course are absolutely
essential for high school and beyond. It is prudent, therefore,
for the student to learn these skills now rather than put
them off until later.
Format: 2 volume set:
The first book, hardbound, is the student
text, which contains all student material, on-your-own questions
and solutions, laboratory exercises, and chapter study guides.
Color photos & illustrations.
The second book, softbound, is the solutions
and tests manual, which contains answers to chapter study
guides, tests, and test solutions. Black & White.
The optional multimedia companion CD contains video clips, pronunciation of vocabulary words, and other useful information to enrich the course.
My Father's World has written lesson plans that give daily assignments (four days a week) for reading, labwork, and the optional CD. This makes it much easier for students to complete the course independently. We even include reminders to gather or purchase needed items such as balloons or vinegar. The lesson plans are included free with the purchase of either the book or the package.

Apologia
Exploring Creation With Physical Science
This course is designed to be the last science
course the student takes before high school biology. Thus,
we generally recommend it as an 8th grade course. However,
if your student was recently in public school, he or she
might need to wait until 9th grade to use it. The course
discusses such topics as the atmosphere, the hydrosphere,
weather, the structure of the earth, environmentalism, the
physics of motion, Newtons Laws, gravity, and astrophysics.
The author especially concentrates on the myths generated
by the hysterical environmentalist movement. There are many
hands-on experiments to do, and they all use household chemicals
and supplies. It is an excellent course for preparing the
student to take a college-prep high school science curriculum.

Apologia Exploring Creation With Biology, 2nd Edition
This high school level course is recommended for students who are taking or have already taken Algebra I. The course covers topics such as body systems, classifications of species, the chemistry of life, ecosystems, and genetics. Students also take a look at the theory of evolution including macroevolution and microevolution. During this study of God’s creation of living organisms, the student will have the opportunity (with the optional dissection kit) to dissect an earthworm, perch, crawfish, and frog. Additional hands-on experiments are used to involve the student in this fascinating study of biology and to prepare him for college classes.
Note: Many of the biology experiments use household items. To complete optional dissection and/or microscope labs, you will need to purchase additional materials. Ordering information is provided in the My Father’s World lesson plans.

Apologia
Exploring Creation With Chemistry, 2nd Edition
This course is designed to be a first-year high school chemistry course and gives the students a rigorous foundation in chemistry, in order to prepare him or her for a college-level course. The course covers significant figures, unites, classification, the mole concept, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, acids and bases, redox reactions, solutions, atomic structure, Lewis structures, molecular geometry, the gas laws, and equilibrium. While the laboratory experiments are designed for the home, some of them are easier with specialized equipment. Ordering information is provided in the My Father's World lesson plans. All of the chemicals used in this course consist of household materials such as table salt, baking soda, dish soap, vinegar, etc. Students who take and understand this course will be very well-prepared for a tough university chemistry course.
