Spelling Power was revised in 2006 (Spelling Power Fourth Edition). The program itself did not change; it “maintains the same research-proven approaches.” However, the instructions were rewritten and moved to new pages. The Fourth Edition includes a Teacher’s Resource CD-ROM and a Quick Start DVD.

If you have an older My Father’s World Teacher’s Manual it may not include specific instructions for using the Fourth Edition. In that case, you may need to make the following changes, to use Spelling Power Fourth Edition:

• Preparation: Read pages 1-2, Program Overview. Then read pages 3-4, Getting Started. Do points 1-3 on these pages now, including watching the DVD. Don’t be overwhelmed by the Spelling Power book. Follow the steps exactly, one by one, and you will learn how to use an easy but very effective spelling program. We recommend that each student use a lined spiral notebook for spelling work. If you prefer, printable copies of student pages are now on the Teacher’s Resource CD-ROM. These pages were previously found at the back of the Spelling Power book.

• Weeks 1-2: You will not use Spelling Power in Weeks 1 and 2. This allows time for handwriting review, and time for you to become comfortable with teaching the other subjects.

• Weeks 3-4: Begin using Spelling Power in Week 3, following the weekly plans in our teacher’s manual. You will need to adjust the page numbers, which were based on earlier editions. It is helpful to review the appropriate DVD sections each day.
